History

Established in 2016, Mountain Mermaids Collective organizes art, music, and cultural events throughout the year and supports existing art and music education programs. Over the years, we have organized and sponsored a variety of annual events, including the following:

  • Spring Frolic - Each spring, the Mermaids host a party for new & existing members in Todd, NC. The Spring Frolic is a sit-down, gourmet feast helmed by a noted chef, followed by dancing. Admission to the party is combined with a special price for membership dues. We hope to see you at our next Frolic - a can’t-miss fête!!

  • Members Float -

  • Sirens on the Mountain Music Festival - Traditionally held each June (for 6 years), this dynamic, women-fronted festival is moving to September as we retool following the pandemic. We look forward to celebrating the transition from summer to autumn and welcoming back everyone who’s been away over the summer.

  • The Bone Shaker - An event originally designed to raise money for the ArtMart Academy of Boone Scholarship Fund to support arts classes for students in need, the Bone Shaker featured a chili cookoff, fortune teller, and face painting. It was our honor to support this local independently owned business and their community outreach. Many thanks to our sponsor, Appalachian Mountain Brewery, for hosting the 2018 Bone Shaker. Due to a lack of available indoor space and the inconsistent cold of the High Country in autumn, we’ve retired this event (for now).

  • Sparklefest - December 23rd brings the Sparklefest. This past year we celebrated with sponsor Lost Province Brewing Company. We hosted a hugely successful cookie swap, made handmade Santa ornaments, and raised money for future outreach projects.
